A. M. Shaikh Homoeopathic Medical College, Belgaum was founded by late Dr.A.M.Shaikh in the year 1967. This was the period when the homoeopathic system of medicine was little known in this part of the country. Dr. A.M.Shaikh, who was an I.A.S. officer, during his service, had shown deep interest in homoeopathy by starting and encouraging many a homoeopathic dispensary. After his retirement, he decided to start a Homoeopathic Medical College in Belgaum with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm though he had limited resources. Some dedicated and noble patrons, who were aware of his ability, helped, encouraged and greeted him.
The college had a humble beginning with only 14 students in a small rented place called Congress Bhavan. This was ridiculed by many, yet the retired man Dr. Shaikh, fought his way through like a brave warrior and overcame all the initial difficulties and problems. The college went on growing day by day under his able guidance and administration.
The college was recognised by the Government of Karnataka in the year 1977 and by the Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi in the year 1980. The college is now affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.
Today the institute is widely regarded as one of the best and the largest homoeopathic medical colleges in India.

Courses: 2. M.D. - 3 Year Post Graduate Course.
The three year post graduate course in homoeopathy is offered in the following subjects: 1. Materia Medica 2.Philosophy and Organon 3.Repertory.
Post-Graduate Centre.
Post-Graduate Course (M. D. in Homoeopathy) is also being offered since 1996.One of the major landmarks achieved by the institute in recent times. The academic year 1996-97 had 7 post-graduates from different parts of the country. Ever since,there has been an encouraging response from enthusiastic and aspiring students from all over the country.
A well-equipped PG Centre with all advanced methods of teaching, has been established within the college campus. Besides, there is a dormitory accommodation as a special wing in both the boys and girls hostel with all facilities.There is an attached library having a variety of books for all subjects in homoeopathy and allied subjects, adjacent to this is a xerox centre. Within the PG Centre there is a conference room where all PGs’ discussions and meetings take place. The audio-visual system is also available to the students to make their presentations during their meetings and discussions. All these facilituies are available under one roof to facilitate the students.
