INFOSYS PAPER ON 13th JULY 2006 AT JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA, NEW DELHI
Details of the Test.
There were two sections -
1) Puzzles and Quantitative Aptitude (10 Questions, 50 Marks, Duration:1 Hour)
2) English (45 Questions, 45 Marks, Duration:30 Minutes)

Section 1:


Ques1: 40 cows can graze a field in 40 days, 30 cows can graze the same field

in
60 days. in how many days can 20 cows graze the field ?
Ans: 120 days

Ques2: My Father gave me some money to buy stamps having price 2paise,7

paise,15 paise, 10 paise and 20 paise and told me to buy 5 stamps each of three

types and 6 stamps each of the other two types . By the time I reached the post

office, I forgot how many of  stamps of each type I had to buy. My father had given

me a total of Rs.3 . Finally I was able to find the exact types of each I had to buy.

Now tell me which these stamps were 5 in number and which were 6 in number.


Ans: 2,7,15 Paise - 5 each
     10,20 Paise - 6 each

Ques:4 J and K are playing some cricket matches. If K wins , then J would have

won the same no. of matches as K. But if J wins the match , then till now he would

have won twice the number of matches won by K . Find the number of matches they

have each won till now.

Ans:
K=2, J=3

Ques5: Find the next term of the series:
a) 1,2,3,5,16,__
b) 1,2,3,8,__,224

Ans: a)231  (2^2 - 1^2 = 3, 3^2 - 2^2 =5, ......16^2 - 5^2 = 231)
     b)27   (2*1+1=3, 3*2+2=8, 8*3+3=27)

Ques6: Four girls Robin,Mandy,Stacy,Erica of four families

Miller,Jacob,Flure,and Clark prepare four salads using the fruits Apples cherries

bananas,grapes.Each girls uses 3 fruits in her salad.No body have the same

combination.
1) Robin is not a Miller girl and uses apples.
2) Miller and Mandy uses apples and cherries.
3) Clark uses cherries and grapes but Flure uses only one of them.
4) Erica is not Clark nor Flure.

Then 4 questions were asked:
1. Which is robins family:
       a. Miller     b. Flure         c.Jacob           d.Clark
 
 
2. Which  is the combination by  Erica?

a. Apples, cherries, Bananas
b. Apples ,Cherries, Grapes
c. Apples,Grapes,Bananas
d. Cherries, Grapes, Bananas
 
3. Which is robin's fruit combination?

a. Apples,Grapes,Bananas
b. Apples ,Cherries, Grapes
c. Apples, cherries, Bananas
d. Cherries, Grapes, Bananas

4. Which fruit is not used by Mandy?
a. Cherries
b. Bananas
c. Apples
d. Grapes

Ans: The question was something like this.
Here is a way u can solve it easily.
Make some columns and rows and place all the name of girls rowise and the name

of families and all fruits columnwise.
Then use a tick mark and a cross to fill the matrix according to given conditions.

Finally u will get the answer easily.

Ques7: There was a long question in which different relations were given like A is

younger than B but older than C Some names were assigened toA,B,C..The question

was to find the youngest of all. This was very simple.
Ans: E(Edward)

Ques8: There is a die. In how many ways can u arrange 1,2,3,4,5,6 on the faces

of the die such that 1&6, 2&5 and 4&3 always remain on opposite faces.
Ans: 24

Ques9: I travelled a certain distance at the rate of 15 miles per hour and came

back at the rate of 10 miles per hour. What is my average speed ?
Ans: 12 miles per hour

Ques10: Julia bought two articles for less than 10 $ . She bought as many yards

of each as there were pieces per yard in cents . She paid 2 Dollars and 15 cents

more for one than the other. Then how many yards of each did she buy ?
Ans: 24 yards and 19 yards.

Section 2:
This section a simple one containing a comprehension passage which was very

easy, some grammer questions, the vocab words were a bit difficult though. They

were to be used in sentences.(CAT TYPE) Others were quite simple.
