INFOSYS PAPER ON 19th JULY 2006 AT Bhilai Institue Of Technology, Durg |
PUZZLES
(While doing the puzzle make sure that your rough sheet is full of workouts.)
Q1>A SOFTWARE ENGINEER STARTS FROM HOME AT 3PM FOR
EVENING WALK.HE WALKSPEED OF 4KMPH ON LEVEL
GROUND AND THEN AT A SPEED OF 3 KMPH ON THE UPHILL
AND THEN DOWN THE HILL AT A SPEED OF 6KMPH TO THE
LEVEL GROUND AND THEN AT A SPEED OF 4KMPH TO THE
HOME AT 9PM. WHAT IS THE DISTENCE ON ONE WAY? (3marks)
Ans>
X/4 + Y/6 + Y/3 + X/4 = 9hr.
Where X is the distance on the ground and Y is the distance uphill.
Solving we get
X + Y =12 Km.
Q2> there is a tank in which there are three pipes. One is for draining and the two other are for filling. One of the pipe can fill the tank in 7 and a half minutes and the other in 6 minutes. The draining pipe can drain water from the whole tank in 8 min. will the tank be ever filled completely. If yes than how? (4 marks)
Ans> yes it will be. This is a very easy question.
One pipe in 6 minutes that is for unit time 1/6
Similarly 7+30/60 minutes for unit time is 2/15
The outlet pipe can do it in 1/8
So the whole tank can be filled in
1/6+2/15-1/8=? Do your self-yaar.and invert the answer that is the answer.
Q3> four friends x, c, v, b are in a party. They were dancing when someone ate the pizza, which they were not supposed to. There were 4 statement quoted out of which only 1 is true, find who ate the pizza? (4 marks)
X- c ate it.
C- v did it.
D- who I Na not at all
B- x is wrong when he says that I did it?
Ans>draw a graph, if we consider that b is right than we can see that c cant have done it otherwise 2 statement will be right so analyzing each statement we see that x ate the pizza. (Not sure about this answer).
Q4>I have a watch which gains 2minutes is every hour and another watch which losses 1 minute in each hour. When there will be a difference of 1 hour in my clocks. (3 marks)
Ans> (X-1) +(X+2)=60
2X +1=60
X=28.5 seconds.
Q5> shakuntala devi puzzle number 128 also was asked about which faces will be 1 side coloured and 2 side coloured and 3 side coloured? (8 marks)
Ans> 1, 6,12,8 (sorry lads cant draw the diagram for it yaar excuse me for that)
Q6> x, c, v had 20rupees and they had to buy 20 stuff from it. The first one was of 4rs. For one the second was of .25rs for 1 and the third was .5rs for 1 how can they busy it so as to get exactly 20 stuff for 20 rs? (4marks)
Ans> the easiest way to answer such a question is that first form an equation
X+C+V= 20
And 4X+. 25C+. 5V=20
Now let us assume the first material to be 1 but if we form the succeeding equations we cant get the correct answer so further if we assume it as 2 it wont do as well.
Let us assume as 3 yes now we can get the answer
It comes out to be 3, 15, and 2. That is 12rs+ 7.5rs + .5rs.
Q7> in this question u are given three combinations read them carefully (8 marks)
If T is selected than X cannot be selected.
If U is selected than Y has to be selected.
If Z is selected than X has to be selected.
Now form the combination that is right
A> TXUYZ
B> TUYCE (right)
C> TUYZC
D> TUYXC
The second question was that
What cant be selected from this
A>TUXYZ (right)
B>UZXYC
C>ZXUYE
D>WERTY
The third question
What can be interchanges from this which wont make any change in the combination?
A>WERTYZ
B>TZXYRE
C>WCUYZX (right)
And there was one simpler question, which I don’t remember.
Q8> if I play a game with my friend and we decide to exchange a rupee for each one loses. If I gained 3 rupee in the end and my friend won three times than tell me how many times I must have won?
Ans> 9 (think over it its logical 3 wins of friend means 3 rupee loss and than 6 rupee win in 6 chances)
Q9> there are three people Mary, John, Hallman. The three are celebrity and they are invited in an interview where they tell their ages only one says the truth.
Mary says I m younger than Hallman
I am only 21
Hallman says that John is the oldest but I am 3 year older than Mary
I am 26
John says I am not the youngest but I am not elder than Hallman
John is lying
(I DON’T REMEMBER THIS QUESTIONS PROPERLY YAAR SO EXCUSE ME FOR THAT YAAR). But my answer was 21,24,26 out of which 21 was wrong.
Q10>this was rather a good question. There is a thief who steals some diamonds from a shop but he feels bad and just takes half and 2 more from the whole lot. Than another thief came and took half and 2 more followed by another who did the same and than another who also did the same. When the last thief came he saw only 1 diamond in the heap. How many diamonds were there in the lot?
Ans> this is a simple question of algebra work it out man the answer coming out is 78 or 76 surely
