 16.5 pc of total Law colleges located in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: As per a recent list prepared by the Ministry of Law, Uttar Pradesh has the largest number of recognized Law Colleges in the country as on October 1, 2008.

The state has 150 Law colleges offering various courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Presently, there are 12 universities and 906 colleges in the country offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Legal studies.

Madhya Pradesh is at the second position with 119 colleges. The other states with a high number of Law colleges include Maharashtra (94), Karnataka (92), Rajasthan (78), Andhra Prdesh (66) and Gujarat (38).

Delhi has a total of 10 Law Colleges and 1 Law University. Sikkim and Tripura, with one college each, have the least number of Law colleges.

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Law & Justice, Mr. K. Venkatapathy, in the Lok Sabha today.
