Chandigarh : A pilot training institute here has been asked to refund fees and pay ompensation to a student who was not given admission in a desired course. The Asia USA India institute was Tuesday directed by the district consumer disputes redressal forum to refund Rs 868,579 taken as fees in 2007 and pay a compensation of Rs 200,000 and litigation cost of Rs 11,000 to the 22-year-old appellant.
The Ahmedabad resident Umang Kumar Trivedi took admission in a professional pilot training course at the institute?s regional centre here in Sector 35 in October 2007.
"At the time of admission, they told me that my admission would be confirmed in the US in two weeks time. However, when I went for my visa interview at the US embassy they rejected my visa on the grounds that I was required to do a ground training course that was mandatory for a professional pilot training course," Trivedi said on Wednesday.

"I paid an additional fee for this ground training course. But even after doing that course I could not get the admission confirmation letter and my visa for the US," he said.

He said the institute later returned Rs 50,000 but refused to refund the remaining amount.

The consumer forum said the institute failed to provide admission in the desired course to Trivedi so it is bound to refund the fees and pay compensation for causing mental agony and harassment to the student.
