Ahmedabad: Taking a great pride girls have made it possible with the declaration of final result for admission to the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on the basis of Common Admission Test (CAT) and personal interviews, this year IIM-A gets 16pc girl student out of total intake. |

The total number of girls getting into IIMs had never crossed 5pc so far and this shift has been possible due to change in admissions criteria to PGP at IIM-A."I am happy to know that this year IIM-A will have 16pc girl student out of total intake. Absence of women candidate in premier B-School bothered me despite better performance in the school board exams," said Satish Deodhar Professor in-charge of PGP admissions.
Under the new system adopted by IIM-A this year, the institute gave weightage to academic performance (AP) in Class X and Class XII. More the marks in the school board examinations, the better were the chances of getting admission in IIM-A.
"This year personal interview and pre-bachelors academic performance were given preferences while offering admission. Merely this change has given us 50 girls in a batch of 315 students," added Prof. Deodhar."It is really exciting for me that this year batch will have more women candidates and I hope this trend continues. Women have demonstrated calibre and dedication. They bring a lot of commitment to the job," said Deepti Bhatnagar, senior aculty member at IIM-A.
Deepti Bhatnagar was the first woman fellow at IIM-A.
