An All-India exam, GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is conducted in all 8 zones of the country. It is administered by a committee comprising of faculty from IISc, Banglore and 7 IITs on behalf of NCB or National Coordinating Board. The overall responsibility of conducting and coordination of GATE, 2009 lies with IIT, Roorkee.
GATE exam is a very important and reputed exam on PG level. It is also important because the seats here are comparatively less than the first level or the B.Tech level. Why not? As you reach higher, the pyramid of competition becomes steeper and tougher as well.
Eligibility Criteria
* Candidate must have a bachelor degree in Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture or must have a Master’s degree in any branch of Mathematics/ Statistics/ Science. Candidates who are in pre-final year or final year are also eligible to write this test.
* Candidates who are in the 2nd year or higher of the 4 year Integrated Master’s programme (Post-B.Sc.) or who are in the 3rd year or higher of the 5 year Integrated Master’s programme in Engineering and Technology and Dual or Double Degree programme in Engineering and Technology.
Selection Procedure
Selection is through a written exam known as GATE. This year, the organizing institute is IIT, Roorkee.
